The electronic and transport properties of (VBz)n@CNT and (VBz)n@BNNT nanocables

Abstract: The electronic structures and transport properties of prototype carbon nanotube (CNT) (10,10) and boron-nitride nanotube (BNNT) (10,10) nanocables, including (VBz) n @CNT and (VBz) n @BNNT (where Bz = C 6 H 6 ), are investigated using the density functional theory (DFT) and the non-equilibrium Green's function (NEGF) methods. It is found that (VBz) n @CNT shows a metallic character while (VBz) n @BNNT exhibits a half-metallic feature. Both (VBz) n @CNT and (VBz) n @BNNT nanocables show spin-polarized transport… Show more

“…[63,64] The sharp diffraction peaks of (100), (002), (101), (102), (110), (103), (201) and (112) indicate the hexagonal phases of Zn(OH) 2 . [66] Hybrids NmFW/Zn(OH) 2 and NmFY/ Zn(OH) 2 also display the similar trend shown in Figure S4.…”

“…That is, it is at least a local minimum on the potential energy surface. The stability could be further enhanced by loading the nanowire on suitable substrates or incorporating it into carbon or boron nitride nanotubes …”

“…To solve the dilemma, two recent researches suggest the fabrication of Mo‐borine and Cr‐styrene molecular wires on Si(001) surfaces, while maintaining half‐metallic conduction . Molecular wires can also be introduced into carbon or BN nanotubes to enhance their stability and form nanocables with multifunctional properties …”

“…Unfortunately, low‐dimensional materials with intrinsic half‐metallicity hardly appear. Only a few examples can be seen in inorganic transition metal compounds nanosheets, organometallic molecular wires and frameworks, and metal‐free systems . In these materials, the discovery of half‐metallicity is accidental, and a general designer scheme is still lacking.…”
