This paper intends to explore whether there exists any relationship between management of facilities and tenants’ satisfaction towards retirement homes in Malaysia. A set of questionnaire was administered to 400 tenants of retirement homes in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, and Kelantan and only 205 complete questionnaires were used for the study. The questionnaire consists of six items on management of facilities with a high reliability value of α = 0.93; and eight items on tenants’ satisfaction with a high reliability value of α = 0.91. The results from Pearson correlation analysis show that there is a strong, positive and significant relationship between management of facilities and tenants’ satisfaction towards retirement homes. The respondents agreed with the items on efficient management of facilities which are collaborations with NGOs in providing transport and medical assistance, creating awareness of these collaborations, availability of food bank supply, an integrated database, effective management of activity space, collaboration with public professional healthcare and skilled social volunteers. As for tenants’ satisfaction, the tenants agreed with the items which include an increase in the number of retirement home tenants, availability of health screening equipment, high quality food and facilities, and skilled caretakers, retirement homes equipped with internet facilities, and happy with activities conducted. Hence, the findings show that the management of facilities in retirement homes has a direct relationship with tenants’ satisfaction towards these retirement homes.

The Ghizer River Basin (GRB) is one of the sub-basins of the Indus River hosting rich mineralization and agrogenic activities. The GRB was sampled for 55 water samples and investigated for potentially harmful element (PHE) concentrations using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. PHE concentrations in the water samples of the GRB were used to calculate the potential of non-cancer risks such as chronic daily intake (CDI) hazard quotient (HQ) and cancer risk (CR). The highest average concentrations of chromium (37.1 ± 17.1 μg/L) copper (27.4 ± 12.5 μg/L) arsenic (4.8 ± 0.9 μg/L) cobalt (9.2 ± 3.3 μg/L) and nickel (62.7 ± 27.6 μg/L) were noted for the Ishkomen River segment of the GRB. Similarly manganese (417 ± 144 μg/L) cadmium (1.95 ± 0.02 μg/L) lead (7.7 ± 1.4 μg/L) and zinc (28.4 ± 5.5 μg/L) concentrations were maximum at downstream of the GRB. Geospatial and statistical analyses showed that lithogenic sources contributed higher to PHE contamination in the water of the GRB than the agrogenic sources. PHE concentrations were noted under the World Health Organization (WHO) drinking water thresholds#except for nickel. Results showed the uppermost CDI value of 13.6 μg/kg-day for manganese and HQ value of 0.52 for arsenic via water intake of children. Non-cancer and CR values through water intake were under the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) thresholds and noted as suitable for drinking and other domestic purposes.

Housing fulfils a person's physical, psychological, social, and economic needs. Housing choices are made by maximizing satisfaction with the home by focusing on various factors, whether external or internal and this varies between generations (i.e. Baby Boomers, Generation X, Generation Y) or by age group. As age increases, an individual's needs and preferences also change due to the ageing factors. This study aims to identify the Malaysian generational Ageing in Place (AIP) housing decision. AIP refers to a person's preference to remain in the same place for as long as possible, which links to their sense of attachment towards a place. This study also aims to provide an overview of the AIP decision-making preferences of the generations in Malaysia. Thus, the objectives of this study are: (i) To identify the factors influencing AIP housing decisions and (ii) To determine the generational AIP decision-making by the generations in Malaysia with Johor Bahru, Johor as the case study. This study adopted a mixed methods of research strategies (qualitative and quantitative). The main findings revealed four (4) main ageing in place preferences such as (1) Economics, (2) Help and Support, (3) Dwelling characteristics, and (4) Neighbourhood. The findings are significant to the public and private sectors in understanding the housing consumers better. The in-depth information gained will help narrow the demand and supply gap between housing consumers and housing providers.
