The efficiency of a small sized hand-made shaped charge

Abstract: Shaped charges are widely used in many different fields. The two main users of shaped charges are the military, where shaped charges are used as a weapon against armoured targets, and the oil industry, to perforate wells. Very often, shaped charges are the subject of scientific research focused on optimising shaped charge parameters and increasing the efficiency of shaped charges. Considering a significant number of parameters affecting the penetration depth, the optimization of shaped charge parameters is a c… Show more

“…The consequences of the non‐ideal behaviour of ANFO are manifested in the strong dependence of the detonation parameters on the charge diameter [3, 6, 7], existence and characteristics of the confinement [8–13], in a curved shock front [2, 7, 14–16], the existence of a fraction of unreacted ANFO at the sonic point [2, 3, 14], and a large failure diameter [6, 16]. The effects of the confinement characteristic on the detonation properties of ANFO are studied by several researchers [8–11, 17, 18]. Some of them studied this effect experimentally [8, 11, 17], while others employed numerical simulation [12, 18–23].…”

Some of them studied this effect experimentally [8, 11, 17], while others employed numerical simulation [12, 18–23]. In general, it can be stated that systematic research on the effect of confinement is sparse and that the interaction between explosive and confinement is still not well understood.…”

“…Shaped charge jet warheads comprise an explosive with a concave shape to focus detonation energy (Kleiser and Lambert, 2015), a metal liner adhered to the explosive, steel or aluminum casing around the explosive and a detonator which initiates the explosive (Molinari, 2002; Naeem and Hussain, 2018). Explosive length, wave shaper, liner geometry, liner material, liner thickness, liner angle and standoff distance are the fundamental parameters that influence the penetration performance which is identified as the depth of the penetration of the jet in to the target (Ayısıt and Çoruh, 2013; Bohanek et al , 2014). For years, researchers have investigated the effect of liner material and microstructure of the liner and the explosives in the shaped charge warhead and initiation systems to increase the penetration performance (Majiet and Mostert, 2019).…”
