The Efficacy of Magnetic Resonance Imaging for the Diagnosis of Superior Semicircular Canal Dehiscence

Abstract: OBJECTIVE:This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for diagnosing superior semicircular canal dehiscence (SSCD). MATERIALS and METHODS:The radiological records of patients who were admitted to our clinic with complaints of otologic and neuro-otologic symptoms between October 2014 and December 2015 were retrospectively reviewed. Among these patients, those who underwent both computed tomography and MRI and were reported to have SSCD in the temporal bone on at least one side … Show more

“…For this retrospective analysis, we had to rely on MRI findings for the diagnosis of SCD, as CT scans and vestibular evoked myogenic potential (VEMP) tests were not routinely performed before cochlear implantation at our institution. However, multiple studies comparing CT with MRI for the diagnosis of SCD showed a high reliability of MRI [Browaeys et al, 2013;Inal et al, 2016;Beyazal Çeliker et al, 2018]. Furthermore, MRI findings were matched with CT findings if available.…”

“…A diagnózis pontos felállításában a kórtörténet mellett kulcsszerepe van a részletes audiovestibularis kivizsgálásnak (impedanciaaudiometria; vestibularisan kiváltott miogén potenciál [VEMP] vizsgálata). A képalkotók közül a HRCT alkalmazása a legelterjedtebb, de MRI-vel a dehiscentia pontosabban meghatározható [26,27].…”
