The Efficacy and Safety of the Chinese Herbal Formula, JTTZ, for the Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes with Obesity and Hyperlipidemia: A Multicenter Randomized, Positive-Controlled, Open-Label Clinical Trial

Abstract: Background and Aim Studies have shown an increasing number of type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients with concomitant obesity and hyperlipidemia syndromes, resulting from relevant metabolic disorders. However, there are few medications and therapies, which can thoroughly address these issues. “…This reduction in glucose levels represented a decrease of 52.6% ( p < .003) by fermented juice of M. citrifolia in Sprague‐Dawley male rats (Nayak et al, ). There are reports addressing an increasing number of Type 2 diabetes patients with concomitant obesity and hyperlipidemia syndromes (Yu et al, ). The ethanolic extract of M. citrifolia displayed higher porcine pancreatic lipase activity (75%) at 500–1,000 μg/ml concentration (Saraphanchotiwitthaya & Sripalakit, ).…”

“…The inhibitory effects on various enzymes that are related to carbohydrate metabolism, such as amylase and glycosidase (Lu et al, ; Sabitha, Panneerselvam, & Ramachandran, ; Zeng et al, ) along with the antioxidant capacity of this this plant, may relate to its antidiabetic property. There are reports addressing an increasing number of Type 2 diabetes patients with concomitant obesity and hyperlipidemia syndromes (Yu et al, ). Therefore, the lipid‐lowering capacity of the plant (Ngoc et al, ; Sabitha et al, ) may also be a positive indication for the management of these types of diseases.…”
