The Effects of Using the International Versus Comprehensive System Rorschach Norms For Children, Adolescents, and Adults

Abstract: Currently, there is some debate about whether to use Comprehensive System norms (CS, Exner, 2003) Accordingly, the current research evaluates the effects of using the CS vs. CIRV norms with children, adolescents, and adults. First, we identified 43 variables for which the CS and the CIRV for children and adolescents differ from each other by at least a Cohen's d value of .5.Next, we evaluated whether these divergent variables are the same as those previously identified as divergent for the adult population… Show more

“…Compared to CS, R-PAS has introduced some important, technical modifications (Meyer, 2011;Meyer & Eblin, 2012). Among them, a new administration procedure has been implemented (see Reese, Viglione, & Giromini, 2014;Viglione et al, 2015), and new international norms have been developed (see Giromini, Viglione, & McCullaugh, 2015;Viglione & Giromini, 2016). Although most of the CS codes were incorporated into R-PAS, so In the first of these studies, Viglione, Blume-Marcovici, Miller, Giromini, and Meyer (2012) reported data on two graduate students who independently coded Rorschach protocols administered to adults and children.…”

“…There is now a robust literature on the Rorschach and trauma, and presenting this is the focus of this paper. Few psychological assessment instruments have as broad an international usage as the Rorschach (Viglione & Meyer, 2008;Evans & Hass, 2018). The Rorschach has a large body of international norms, which include international norms for the Exner Comprehensive System (CS; Meyer et al, 2007) and for the Rorschach Performance Assessment System (R-PAS; Meyer et al, 2011Meyer et al, , 2017.…”

“…The system also contains a marker of malingering or negative simulation (CritCont%). Lastly, the normative data are based on globally collected adult reference samples (Meyer, Erdberg, & Shaffer, 2007), which compared to the traditional CS norms, make nonclinical adults appear less pathological (Meyer, & Viglione, 2008;Viglione, & Giromini, 2016).…”
