The Effects of Systematic Client Preparation, Severity, and Treatment Setting on Dropout Rate in Short-Term Psychotherapy

Abstract: A videotaped preparation-for-psychotherapy program was developed, emphasizing an informational component and modeling of client psychotherapy behavior. The effectiveness of the program was tested in a range of treatment facilities with a vari ety of clients. The videotape was effective in reducing dropouts and in increasing attendance, regardless of clients' rated severity.
