The effects of spirotetramat on life history traits and population growth of Tetranychus urticae (Acari: Tetranychidae)

Abstract: The effects of spirotetramat, a tetramic acid derivative, on gross fertility, net fertility, female longevity and the instantaneous rate of increase of two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae (Acari: Tetranychidae) were investigated after treatment of female teleiochrysalises (the first assay) and pre-ovipositional females (the second assay). Spirotetramat was applied to the leaf discs by Potter spray tower and the following series of concentrations was applied: 200, 60, 18, 5.4 and 1.62 mg/l. In both ass… Show more

“…Spirotetramat has been registered in China under the trade name Movento to control a range of sucking insects, including aphids. Acting as an inhibitor of acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC), spirotetramat can cause a significant reduction in total lipid biosynthesis [8]. Because of its novel mode of action, spirotetramat lacks cross-resistance to existing chemical classes of insecticides and will be an invaluable new tool for managing the insecticide resistance of cotton aphids.…”

“…Spirotetramat is an inhibitor of acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and causes a significant reduction in total lipid biosynthesis in a manner similar to the tetronic acid derivatives spirodiclofen and spiromesifen [9][10][11]. Spirotetramat has been registered in China since 2011 under the trade name Movento and is applied as a foliar spray to control a range of sucking insects including aphids.…”

“…Spirotetramat, an inhibitor of ACC that is a spirocyclic tetronic/ tetramic acid derivative, is a systemic insecticide developed for the control of sucking pests, including aphids (Br€ uck et al, 2009;Nauen et al, 2012). It is similar to the tetronic acid derivatives spirodiclofen and spiromesifen and can cause a significant reduction in total lipid biosynthesis by inhibiting ACC (Van Pottelberge et al, 2009;Khajehali et al, 2011;Marcic et al, 2012). Spirotetramat is instantly transformed into spirotetramat-enol in the plant after leaf uptake and is distributed throughout the plant owing to the insecticide's favourable physicochemical properties.…”
