Procrastination has chronically affected college students for decades. While some researchers have considered procrastination to be an individual trait, others have suggested that procrastination has a dynamic nature over time in face-to-face classrooms. However, whether changes in procrastination over time can be found in the online learning environment remains unclear. In this study, we investigate the dynamic nature of students’ procrastination by comparing procrastination in the online learning environment during the first and second halves of an academic quarter. A deadline rush model is adopted to compute students’ procrastination across the quarter based on their online webpage activity. The results show that the students experienced greater procrastination in the second half of the quarter than in the first half of the quarter. Our findings highlight the importance of the time variable in research on students’ procrastination.

Measuring procrastination is critical to discovering how procrastination impacts individuals. Studies have frequently adopted methodologies to quantify procrastination after task deadlines have passed. However, there are no models and strategies to predict procrastination while individuals are still working on tasks. The present exploratory study investigates the individual correlates of eye movement and physiological responses with procrastination. We conducted laboratory experiments with 18 participants and recorded their physiological data during the experiments. Participants’ procrastination levels were computed based on individual behavioral data collected during task completion. For most participants, the number of eye fixations, fixation rate, and standard deviation of skin temperature were related to procrastination. Our preliminary findings can be used to direct future research on modeling procrastination using combinations of eye movement and physiological responses with individual customizations.

STRESZCZENIEZagadnienie prokrastynacji, rozumianej jako nieuzasadnione odkładanie wykonania koniecznych zadań, budzi zainteresowanie wielu badaczy. Sugerują oni, że jest to zjawisko powszechne w populacji osób studiujących. Prezentowane badania mają na celu określenie roli czynnika umiejscowienie kontroli w relacji między cechami osobowości a prokrastynacją. Uczestnikami badań było 62 studentów II roku, reprezentujących trzy kierunki studiów. Przeprowadzone analizy mediacyjne pokazują złożony charakter zjawiska. Stwierdzono, że umiejscowienie kontroli pozwala na przewidywanie zachowań prokrastynacyjnych i może być ważnym mediatorem między neurotycznością a prokrastynacją w wymiarze ogólnym.Słowa kluczowe: prokrastynacja; osobowość; poczucie umiejscowienia kontroli WPROWADZENIE Przegląd literatury pozwala określić "typowego prokrastynatora" jako osobę młodą, uczącą się, która celowo opóźnia rozpoczęcie lub zakończenie zadania z irracjonalnych powodów, czego konsekwencją jest odczuwanie niepokoju (Ferrari 2010;Ferrari, Johnson, McCown 1995;Tibbett, Ferrari 2015), obniże-nie efektywności, spadek wydajności, pogorszenie samopoczucia (Tice, Baumeister 1997) prowadzące do zaburzeń somatycznych (Klingsieck 2013;Sirois, Melia-Gordon, Pychyl 2003).
