Industry 4.0 represents a new paradigm in the production of goods and services, through the unification of digital technologies and the Internet with conventional industry. The objective of this work is to analyze the determinants of the implementation of the industry 4.0 in SMEs. We study the effect on implementation of factors such as size, seniority, gender, level of technical training of management, the presence in the SME of an internal responsible for Industry 4.0 and whether it is a family business or not. To this end, an attempt was made to develop an empirical study based on a sample of 1,142 Argentine SMEs. As a methodological strategy, a model was defined to be developed in two stages. In the first, a confirmatory factor analysis was proposed to determine the latent variable: industry 4.0 by company, and in the second, a linear regression model was developed based on the chosen variables as probable determinants. The main results allow us to affirm that the age and size of the organization can have a favorable implication for the incorporation of Industry 4.0. tools to the organization. We also found a positive association between the male gender of management, the manager's training in related technical issues and the presence of an internal person responsible for the digitalization process, in the implementation of technologies associated with Industry 4.0. At the same time, we did not find a significant relationship between the implementation of the industry 4.0 and the family business. The conclusions may be useful for directing public promotion policies on the youngest and smallest companies and facilitating their possibilities of incorporating the new production paradigm, as well as the formulation of policies with a gender perspective.

This research aims to examine aspects of human capital that influence the performance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Drawing on an extensive review of literature from indexed journal databases, the study focused on identifying key factors related to "human capital" and "MSME performance." The comprehensive exploration revealed a multifaceted relationship between human capital aspects and MSME performance, unveiling pivotal influencers. The identified aspects of human capital found to exert a substantial influence on MSME performance encompass a wide spectrum. These include skills and competencies, education and training, employee motivation and engagement, employee health and welfare, innovation and creativity, communication and collaboration, digital skills, work ethics and organizational values, entrepreneurship and sense of ownership, as well as organizational diversity. This research contributes valuable insights for policymakers aiming to enhance the human capital capabilities of MSME entrepreneurs. By addressing these specific dimensions, policymakers can formulate targeted strategies to uplift the human capital landscape within MSMEs. Consequently, this targeted approach is anticipated to render MSMEs more productive, sustainable, and equipped to venture into international markets.

Knowledge management and information systems have garnered increased attention for their potential to enhance venture performance. However, there is limited research on the specific competences of information systems based on knowledge management within the context of micro and small businesses. This study aims to fill this gap by examining small businesses in the entrepreneurship field to determine whether they recognize the importance of these competences. The research focuses on a sample of 70 small businesses operating in lower-middle-income economies and employs a fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) methodology. The findings reveal that smaller businesses acknowledge the significance of information systems competences in facilitating their organizational development and that these ventures are increasingly exposed to the value of knowledge management in their day-to-day operations. This study contributes to the existing literature by shedding light on the role of smaller businesses in lower-middle-income economies.
