The effects of nursing of Roy adaptation model on the elderly hypertensive: a randomised control study

Abstract: Background: Hypertension is a chronic disease affecting middle-aged and elderly patients worldwide.Self-management behavior plays a critical role in maintaining blood pressure. Roy adaptation model (RAM), which was proposed by Roy in 1970, has been used to guide hypertension nursing to improve selfmanagement behavior of elderly patients. In the study, to explore the effect of nursing based on the RAM on the self-management behavior of elderly hypertensive patients. Methods: A total of 120 elderly hypertensive p… Show more

“…In the study design, a meticulous sample size calculation ensured robust statistical power for detecting effects. A existing literature comparing SF36 total scores (Control: 583.05 ± 111.20, RAM: 642.46 ± 75.13) revealed significant improvement with RAM in elderly hypertensive patients [ 11 ]. G*Power 3.1.9.2 software determined effect size (d = 0.626).…”

“…The RAM describes behaviors as either adaptive or non-adaptive and focuses on the dynamic process of adaptation in response to four modes: physiological, self-concept, role function, and interdependence [ 9 , 10 ]. It has been widely applied in various healthcare settings and has demonstrated benefits for promoting adaptation and well-being in elderly patients [ 11 13 ]. Therefore, in the context of perioperative care for elderly patients with BPH, the application of the RAM can provide valuable insights and guidance.…”

“…Among the main existing nursing theoretical frameworks, the Roy Adaptation Model (RAM) stands out because it demonstrates that the individual or group interacts and responds to stimuli from the environment, making its suitability plausible for people with CKD who need to get adapted to their new health condition ( 7 , 8 ) .…”
