The Effects of Migration on the Transmission Dynamics of Sickle Cell Anaemia

Abstract: Among the factors which should be considered in the formulation of a model representing a phenomenon in population dynamics, migration has always been the most difficult to treat mathematically and, hence, it has not been given prominence by researchers over the years. Nevertheless, in this paper we shall analyze its role in the transmission dynamics of a genetically transmitted disease, the Sickle-Cell Anaemia. (2000). Primary 92B05; Secondary 92D15. “…After formulating the model equations (which does not include migration), we shall prove existence, boundedness and uniqueness of the solutions of the proposed model, using standard mathematical techniques. Migration, which is an important demographic parameter has been considered elsewhere (Tchuenche, 2005c), as well as polygamy (Tchuenche, 2005d). Mathematically minded readers will find all the rigorous details in the appendices.…”
