The Effects of Maekmoondong‐Tang on Cockroach Extract‐Induced Allergic Asthma

Abstract: Maekmoondong-tang (MMDT) has long been used in Asian countries to treat respiratory diseases. However, the precise mechanisms underlying its effects on asthma are unknown. This study was conducted to evaluate the protective effects of MMDT in a cockroach allergen (CKA-)induced animal model of allergic asthma. After being challenged with CKA, the number of macrophages, eosinophils, neutrophils, lymphocytes, and total cells in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) was evaluated. The Th2 specific cytokines IL-4… Show more

“…This GBT was suspended and diluted in normal saline and the rats were orally injected by an oral gavage at the concentration of 200, 400, or 600 mg/kg/day for 5 days after an oxaliplatin injection. The concentration of GBT in this study is similar to that of the other herbal formula used in our previous study [ 24 ] and that of Buja in others' study [ 16 ].…”

“…Asthma is a well‐known chronic respiratory disease characterized by inflammatory cell infiltration, and the inflammatory cells in BALF were evidently enhanced in the allergic asthma model induced by cockroach allergen . Similarly, our study found that with overexpression of PON1, there was great relief of inflammatory cell infiltration in the submucosa and around the airway and an obvious decrease in eosinophils, mononuclear macrophages, neutrophils, lymphocytes, and total cells.…”

“…Rats were orally injected with water extract of C. Cortex (WECC) diluted in PBS at 100, 200, or 400 mg/kg/day for five days after oxaliplatin injection. The doses of WECC used in this study were similar to those of other herbal formula used in our previous study [18,52] and those of Aconiti tuber in other’s study [48]. Rats were randomly divided into the following six groups ( n = 6 per group for cold): (1) Vehicle + PBS (i.p.…”
