The effects of kinesio taping on architecture, strength and pain of muscles in delayed onset muscle soreness of biceps brachii

Abstract: [Purpose] This study aimed to confirm the effects of kinesio taping (KT) on muscle function and pain due to delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) of the biceps brachii. [Subjects and Methods] Thirty-seven subjects with induced DOMS were randomized into either Group I (control, n=19) or Group II (KT, n=18). Outcome measures were recorded before the intervention (application of KT) and at 24, 48, and 72 hours after the intervention. DOMS was induced, and muscle thickness was measured using ultrasonic radiography.… Show more

“…The participants of both groups were also able to support crioestimulation longer (Figure 2), and the painful experience, evaluated through VAS, was reported as being less intense ( Table 3). The reduction of pain with the use of KT has been reported by other researchers, being singled out as an important factor for the musculoskeletal rehabilitation, providing a positive psychological effect in addition to accelerating the return to routine activities [9,21].…”

“…it's been used in the field of sports, in particular, to protect joints and reduce edema and pain after acute lesions [9]. According to the application technique, the tension applied on the tape and the shape of the strips vary as a function of the purpose of the treatment, with its main effects being the normalization of muscular function, the increase of lymphatic and vascular flow and assisting in the correction of any bad joint alignments and the reduction of pain.…”

“…Several studies used the isometric dynamometer (33) that captures only maximal isometric contraction on a predetermined angle and does not represent the muscle performance throughout the range of motion, as observed with the isokinetic dynamometer (34). Moreover, as previously discussed, the application period appears to influence the effects generated by the KT (35,36). Thus, the lack of standardization of this parameter may influence the effects attributed to the KT.…”

“…Jang e Lee 20 verificaram que o exercício em esteira, após lesão nervosa isquiática, melhora a biomecânica das articulações do tornozelo, joelho e quadril durante a marcha. Assim, pode-se constatar que o exercício produz efeitos analgésicos e atua na regeneração funcional do nervo periférico 21 , restaurando a função motora o que restabelece a marca e com isso restaura os parâmetros necessários para a manutenção morfológicos dos tecidos articulares. Contudo, Oliveira et al 22 …”
