The Effects of Hydroalcoholic Extract of Apium graveolens Leaf on the Number of Sexual Cells and Testicular Structure in Rat

Abstract: Background:Use of medicinal plants with high antioxidant properties could be effective to increase fertility and improvement of disorders such as hormonal imbalance, impotency, oligospermia and immotile sperm. Celery (Apium graveolens) is rich in antioxidant agents. The leaf and stems of celery contain phenols, furanocoumarin and luteolin. Apigenin is one of the main flavonoids of celery leaf. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the effects of hydroalcoholic extract of celery on histological properties… Show more

“…The control group received 1 mL of distilled water (as an extraction solvent), and the experimental groups were given 1 mL of hydro-alcoholic extract of fennel seed by oral gavage at respective doses of 35, 70, 140, and 280 mg/kg b.w. daily for 60 days (10,18). The rats were deeply anaesthetised by xylazine (10 mg/kg) and ketamine (60 mg/kg) (Alfasan, the Netherlands) 24 h after the last dose.…”
