The effects of continuous press speed and conditioning time on the particleboard properties at industrial scale

Abstract: Effects of continuous press speed (580 and 600 mm/s) and conditioning time (0 and 72 h) on some physical and mechanical properties and formaldehyde content of particleboards were investigated. The 18 mm thick boards were manufactured using urea-formaldehyde, with a 50% pine, 40% oak wood, and 10% poplar biomass mixture of the wood materials. According to the results of the unconditioned samples, the density, modulus of rupture (MOR), moisture content (MC), thickness swelling (TS), and water absorption (WA) wer… Show more

“…The free formaldehyde analysis result of high-density fiberboard (HDF) produced with 1,17 moles urea-formaldehyde glue; 14,76 (mg / 100 g) measured. Camlibel and Aydın (2022) explained that according to the results of the studies performed on unconditioned and conditioned particle boards, the most obvious parameter affected by the increase in continuous press speed was free formaldehyde.…”

“…The mechanical and physical properties of particleboards decisively determine their possible application, such as a building material or for furniture. The properties are in uenced by the selected raw material, the adhesive type, and the production parameters (Çamlıbel and Aydın, 2021). The pressing parameters provide the condition for curing the adhesive and consolidating the mat.…”
