“…46 As to the mechanism of physical activity improving sleep quality, melatonin works to regulate the sleep/wake cycle, and aerobic exercise can increase brain serotonin level, which indirectly improves sleep quality by increasing melatonin level. 47 The present study has the following limitations that should be taken into account. First, this is a cross-sectional study limited to women in early pregnancy.…”

“…A study conducted in 2016 showed that physical activity decreases the fatigue severity scale (FSS), and the study associated this improvement with an elevation of the 5-HT levels present in the same group [22]. Likewise, a randomized controlled trial (RCT) in 2019 showed an increase in 5-HT levels with aerobic exercise, and it associated this phenomenon with the improvement in the participants' sleep quality [23]. Although both studies had a small sample size, the results are promising for future therapies on targeting the serotonergic system to improve the overall health of MS patients and their quality of life.…”

“…Physical exercise combined with dietary stringency and regulation, and in many cases restriction, promotes various aspects of cardiovascular and metabolic health through the induction of a direct impact upon the vascular endothelium as well as other physiological factors mediating cellular homeostasis and functioning. For example, exercise may be a non-pharmacological, inexpensive, safe method to improve sleep quality in people presenting multiple sclerosis [1] with profound therapeutic effects over a variety of disorder condition and health-promoting proclivities [2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. Additionally, over a wide sphere of chronicallydebilitating communicable and non-communicable disease states are ameliorated by physical exercise schedules, relatively independent of type, duration and intensity, especially if maintained on a chronic-regular basis [4].…”
