The purpose of this article is to analysis the factors affecting the effectiveness of the education system in Ukraine. The article substantiates the need to determine the main criteria and tools for assessing quality for subsequent decision-making at the level of educational institutions, educational management, and added value. Results from DEAP Version 2.1 of technical efficiency contain information on CRS, VRS, and SEa models grouped by 24 regions of Ukraine. A set of control variables determined their impact on the effectiveness of the higher education system in Ukraine. Practical application of Data envelopment analysis (DEA) methods and regression analysis, graphical analysis, made it possible to form an idea of qualitative and quantitative indicators that affect the efficiency of the education system in Ukraine.

Applying Active Learning Strategies to Develop the Professional Teaching Competency of Chinese College Student Teachers in the Context of Geography Education

Developing the professional teaching competence of college student teachers is a vital task in initial teacher education institutions. The aim of this research, based on a quasi-experimental design, was to apply active learning strategies to develop the professional teaching competence of Chinese college geography student teachers. In total, 96 geography student teachers in China participated in this research; 50 of them were placed in the experimental group, and the remaining 46 were placed in the control group. The intervention on active learning strategies was based on Bloom’s taxonomy and the Standards for The Professional Competence of Teachers majoring in Secondary Education for Student Teachers. The experimental group received the experimental intervention for 16 lessons, while the control group was exposed to the traditional teaching in the same teaching schedule. The results of the one-way ANCOVA undertaken show that the intervention consisting of active learning strategies significantly improved the professional competence of the Chinese college student geography teachers in the experimental group. This study contributes empirically to the universities, educators, and researchers involved in initial teacher education programmes in the geography field.

Kanbay Presentation Evaluation Form: A Theoretical Study of Form Development

Objective: This study aimed to develop a theoretical form based on Lawshe’s method in order to evaluate the presentations in the light of scientific and objective criteria in educational environments. Materials and Methods: In this respect, literature was reviewed and a items pool was created, then a draft form was created by taking expert opinion (n: 12), and finally the trial form was re-submitted to the expert assessment (n: 25). The form was finalized by calculating the content validity ratio (CVR), content validity index (CVI) and the Fleiss Kappa coefficient. Results: In Lawshe’s method, the content validity ratio (CVR) should be at the significance level (α) = 0.05 with a minimum value of 0.44, so that the findings obtained from 25 experts can be considered valid. For this reason, CVR was calculated for each item in the trial form and all items were found to be above the required level of 0.44. In the next step, CVI was computed for the obtained 20 items, and determined as 0.88. The content validity of the form was concluded to be statistically significant since the value of CVI (0.88) was observed to be higher than CVR (0.44). Concordance between experts was examined for the reliability of the form. To this end, Cohen kappa coefficient was calculated and found to be 0.84. Conclusion: As a result, Kanbay form which was developed to evaluate students’ presentations in educational programs in an objective and scientific way, was concluded to be statistically valid and reliable.
