The effectiveness of e-textiles in providing thermal comfort: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract: Thermal electronic textiles (e-textiles) are increasingly common in the market and aim to provide thermal comfort in cold environments. Currently, however, there is a paucity of information on the relative effectiveness of the different types of thermal e-textile. This study sets out to compare the effectiveness of a range of such textiles reported in the relevant literature. The study addresses the issue of heating effectiveness in terms of gender and particular body regions. Among the results reported, three… Show more

“…Investigative methods into the digital fabrication of fibres is being researched where inbuilt functionality provides in-fibre storage programs, data storage, sensors and digital communication, such a fabrication structured process proposes uniform placement of discrete in-fibre electronic devices that will carry out such functionality. Researchers are actively thinking outside the box about new and potentially disruptive innovative ways to fuse AI with e-textiles moving away from the traditional textile world as we know it [30], [31]. This is sparking a renewed interest in this domain and shows promise of real impact across multiple sectors.…”

“…Smart garments are a type of wearable technology where the sensors are integrated into clothing that is being worn during day-to-day activities. The technology incorporated in the clothing provides various functions [1], such as tracking biometric data [2], controlling other smart devices [3], or enhancing comfort [4] and performance [5]. This wearable technology is different from smart watches, rings, or glasses (smart accessories) as the tech in garments sits within elastic shirts or trousers.…”
