Abstract: Variability between day hospital programs in goals of treatment, administrative affiliation, staff, patients, and treatment modalities make generalizations concerning the effectiveness of treatment difficult, if not impossible. However, the available reports of evaluation of day hospital effectiveness suggest that such treatment is comparable to both inpatient and outpatient mental health treatment in effecting symptomatic and social change and these effects may be more long‐lasting than those obtained in the … Show more

“…In studies on social functioning collected from different informants (patient, family, therapist, researcher) by use of various instruments, employed at different times, it has been clearly indicated that day treatment outcome is superior to inpatient treatment outcome. Characterizing those 10 Yo to 30 Yo of patients, for whom partial hospitalization is not the treatment of choice, has been difficult until now.…”

“…It seems more reasonable to conclude that some PHP's attain good results with schizophrenics for instance (15,36), while others are better for non-schizophrenics (36). The length of treatment (25), the patient's motivation (42) and the attitude of the family towards the program (36) seem to correlate positively with outcome.…”
