The Effectiveness of Chitosan to Increase Body Resistance of Sangkuriang Catfish (Clarias gariepinus) Against Aeromonas hydrophila Attack

Abstract: This research aims to determine the optimal dose of chitosan that is appropriate to be given to commercial feed in increasing the immune system of sangkuriang catfish fry. The research was carried out in April – June 2021 at the Aquaculture Laboratory and Biotechnology Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Padjadjaran University. This research used an experimental method of Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments and three replications. The treatment used was the addition of chi… Show more

“…Even without treatment, the disappearance of hemorrhagic symptoms in treatment A is suspected to be due to its stronger immune system compared to the other fish. In a study conducted by Sopiah et al (2018), the treatment of Sangkuriang catfish infected with A. hydrophila using pandan wangi leaf extract resulted in the fastest clinical symptom recovery in five days of maintenance. On the other hand, when treated with galangal extract, the clinical symptoms recovered even faster, specifically on the third day.…”

“…Chitosan effectively enhances the immune response of Pangasius sp. infected with A. hydrophila, highlighting its potential in disease management [7]. Transforming chitosan into chitosan nanoparticles (CNPs) further improves its bioavailability and drug delivery capabilities, making it an efficient carrier for therapeutic compounds.…”
