Higher education has been shifted toward blended learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. An increase in social media usage intensity and reduced face-to-face interaction due to the COVID-19 pandemic urged instructional communication researchers to revisit the dynamics of learners’ group development in terms of their socialization and academic performance during the COVID-19 crisis. This research aimed to determine the mediating role of social media sociability between face-to-face socialization and academic performance of higher education students in blended learning environments during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was also the aim of the study to determine the moderating effect of social media usage intensity on social media sociability. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with the students (n = 340) enrolled in science teacher education departments of universities in Pakistan. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used for multivariate analysis. Results revealed that face-to-face socialization gave an essential start to develop a learning group. However, when face-to-face socialization was reduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was mediated by social media usage in blended learning environments to increase their socialization and academic performance during the crisis. The findings of the study are useful for higher education institutions to adopt social media strategies for students’ socialization during the crisis.

This study aims to see whether the given of education using hybrid learning method to mothers as the first school at home in protecting the environment through the use of reusable masks (re-washing) is effective in overcoming the accumulation of disposable mask waste during the Covid-19 pandemic. The use of disposable masks has the potential to become a problem of accumulating rubbish that has the potential to earth damage, especially during the pandemic. The use of repeated washing masks and an understanding of their care and maintenance can help these problems. Mothers who are teachers in the family are the right target to be given socialization on the use of washing masks so that they become an extension of the government in helping address environmental problems. The hybrid learning method is deemed suitable to be used during the pandemic to suppress virus transmission. The research was conducted in Agust - October 2021. The place where the research was carried out was at IMH PSIKOLATES Pekanbaru. This research uses qualitative methods and is described in a descriptive way. The research subjects were 10 mothers, selected purposively with the following criteria: 1) aged 30 years - 55 years, 2) having children more than 1, 3) domicile in the city of Pekanbaru. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the hybrid learning method in educating mothers about the use of re-washing masks and maintaining their cleanliness was useful in helping reduce disposable mask waste, especially during the Covid19 pandemic.

Digital literacy development at the university level is necessary for facing Industrial Revolution 4.0. This research is ex post facto research that examines the phenomena that occur in the learning process. The study was conducted from April to August 2021, with 64 respondents from all universities with Biology Education Study Programs in Bali involved in filling out Metacognitive Ability, Selfregulated Learning, and Digital Literacy questionnaires distributed through Google Forms. The tabulated data were then analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling -Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) SMART PLS 3.0. The results showed that the contributions of metacognitive abilities to the digital literacy skills of biology education students in Bali were 23.1%. In the other hand, contributions of metacognitive abilities to self-regulated abilities were 41.8%. Furthermore, in biology courses, metacognitive abilities have a significant contribution to digital literacy compared to self-regulated learning.
