The Effect of the Use of PTFE as a Covered-Electrode Binder on Metal Transfer

Abstract: Studies have shown that when used as binders for basic covered electrodes, polymers produce a weld metal microstructure with a high acicular ferrite content. The reasons identified for this behavior include changes in the shielding atmosphere and metal transfer mode. To investigate the effect of polymers on metal transfer, voltage oscillograms and high-speed films were recorded during welding with standard-binder and polymer-binder E7018 electrodes using different welding currents. Electrodes tips collected af… Show more

“…Experimental data on droplet transfer parameters of electrode metal are given in Table 2. Table 2 point at decreasing time of droplet transfer and increasing number of shortcuts when using experimental electrodes МР-3 in comparison with standard electrodes МР-3; so, fine-droplet transfer of electrode metal (Makarov et al, 2017;Erohin, 1973) is possible due to modifying powders in electrode coating, which support stability of arc burning (Vaz, Bracarense, 2015;Varnauskas et al, 2004;Lazić et al, 2010).…”
