The effect of the forget-remember mechanism on spreading

Abstract: Abstract. We introduce a new mechanism-the forget-remember mechanism into the spreading process. Equipped with such a mechanism an individual is prone to forget the "message" received and remember the one forgotten, namely switching his state between active (with message) and inactive (without message). The probability of state switch is governed by linear or exponential forget-remember functions of history time which is measured by the time elapsed since the most recent state change. Our extensive simulations… Show more

“…In recent years, many scholars have studied the influence of psychological factors on the spread of rumors [9][10][11][12][13][14]. [12][13][14] developed vary rumor propagation models, which considered the forgetting mechanism and which is conducive to the termination of the rumor.…”

“…[12][13][14] developed vary rumor propagation models, which considered the forgetting mechanism and which is conducive to the termination of the rumor. In this paper, we study a rumor spreading model in a homogeneous network take into account forgetting mechanism and impact of education on the population, which is described in Section 2.…”

“…The studies are facilitated by an easy access to massive data sources [21,22]. Information and opinion diffusion in online communities is frequently compared to epidemiological phenomena [23][24][25][26][27][28][29]. Both processes, however, need separate approaches, what was shown e.g.…”

“…A more realistic and interesting model of infectious diseases should take into account a change in the environment and the variety of characteristics of individuals [21]. Along with the spreading process, the preventive effect should become stronger because people could find useful methods such as taking pills and avoiding close contacts with infected individuals to prevent the disease from spreading [22,23]. Moreover, how easy or difficult it is for an individual to be infected by others depends on their own characteristic, such as age, nutritional status, sex and so on.…”
