The Effect of the Characteristics of the Partition Plate Unit on the Separating Process of −6 mm Fine Coal in the Compound Dry Separator

Abstract: Although compound dry separation technology has been applied to industrial applications for +6 mm size fraction of coal separation, the technology has not been widely applied in the separation of fine coal (−6 mm). In this study, the effect of the partition plate unit characteristics on both the average density of particles in the bed uniformly and the final separation results in a fine coal separation process were studied. According to the results, the standard deviations of the corresponding density distribu… Show more

“…While heavier particles gravitate through the bed and come in contact with the deck surface and move in the direction of the outlet of rock, is discharged by the baffle plate that directs them to the discharge chute of rock [ 175 , [248] , [249] , [250] ]. Particle size [ [250] , [251] , [252] , [253] ], feed rate [ 246 ], air flow rate [ 249 , 256 ], table transverse inclination [ 246 , 256 ], table longitudinal inclination [ 246 , 256 ], table vibration frequency [ 246 ], riffle height [ 246 ], and partition plate height [ 248 , [257] , [258] , [259] ] are the parameters that could affect the separation efficiency of both conventional air table and FGX separator (Table S4). FGX separator could also be applied to remove heavy metals like mercury from hard coal [ 254 ] and used for low-rank lignite beneficiation with the combination of subsequent infrared (IR) drying [ 250 ].…”

“…The effect of the partition plate unit on the separating of fine coal particles in a compound dry separator is reported by Chen et al [13]. Compound dry separation technology is often applied for the separation of coal of size fractions above 6 mm, and it has not been widely used in finer fractions.…”

“…In addition, for the previous study in the mineral separation industry, for example, coal, the compound dry separator was employed for removing mineral gangue from raw coal with +6 mm particle sizes. Recently, the compound dry separator has been improved and can be used to classify fine coal powder with −6 mm particle sizes [7]. Cut size (d 50 : average particle size at 50% cumulative volume percentage) of classification is an important factor with which to evaluate the performance of an air classifier.…”
