Liver metastases are secondary malignant tumor formations due to the dissemination of primary malignant tumors, which are often the first clinical manifestation of mammary cancer. We present the case of a 52-year-old female patient from an urban area who came to the walk-in service at the “Sf. Ap. Andrei” Emergency County Hospital, Galati, for laboratory investigations. These revealed a significant increase in CA 15–3 tumor markers and a slight increase in CA 125 and CA 19–9 markers; however, clinical examination did not reveal tumors in the breast and there were no axillary adenopathies. CT exam revealed a large tumor formation in the hepatic right lobe and, close to it, a smaller one. The mammograph showed millimetric lesions at the level of the left mammary gland and bilateral axillary adenopathies. Subsequently, the patient underwent two liver biopsies in two different hospitals, which produced different histological and immunohistochemical results. PET-CT drew attention to a lung tumor and disclosed a different origin of metastases. In the end, correlating all investigations, the final diagnosis was cholangiocarcinoma with liver metastases and lung tumor with lung and bone metastases.

This article aimed to separate and identify molecular species obtained in the sol-gel process by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS), for the reaction mixture with methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMOS). In the presence of an unhydrolyzed methyl group, the molecular species starting with the cyclic trimers, a series of geometric isomers were separated and identified due to the position of the methyl groups in relation to the ring plane of each siloxane molecule; in addition, for the hydrolyzed products, isomers with different relative positions of the hydroxyl groups to the methyl and methoxy groups were separated and identified. The reactivity of the new molecular species formed determines subsequent stages of the sol-gel process.

Tyrosine nitration has been shown to be an important oxidative protein modification and play a crucial role in pathophysiological conditions, associated with oxidative stress, such as atherosclerosis and neurodegenerative disease. For a better understanding of nitration mechanism, the identification and the quantification of nitration sites represents an important research goal. Due to (i) the low levels of nitration in native proteins, (ii) structural changes induced by nitration and (iii) the specificity of anti � 3 nitro tyrosine antibodies the method which may provide the identification of nitration sites in proteins represent a challenging experimental task. In this work we have used synthetic nitrated tyrosine containing peptides to determine antibody-binding affinities and specificity of different tyrosine residue (Tyr33, Tyr98, Tyr107and Tyr122) in Eosinophil cationic proteins (ECP). The highest affinity of nitrated ECP peptides to the monoclonal antibody (anti-3NT) was obtained for the only in vivo nitrated identified residue Tyr33(0.082 �M); in contrast, all other three nitrated residues at Tyr98, Tyr107 and Tyr122) showed significant lower affinity being imbedded in the ECP protein structure as similar resulted by molecular computational modeling.
