The Effect of Selective Additives on the Rheological Behavior of Power Plant Ash Slurry

Abstract: The rheological behavior of power plant ash samples collected from JSPL (M=s Jindal Steel & Power Limited, Raigarh), India, was carried out using a HAAKE rotational rheometer (Model: RheoStress 1, Thermo Fisher Scientific). The ash slurry indicated non-Newtonian behavior in the solids concentration range of 50-60% by mass. The rheological data were best fitted by Bingham plastic model in the studied ranges of concentrations and shear rates. Two selective additives, namely sodium silicate and Ghadi detergent, w… Show more

“…Gopaliya and Kaushal [17] analysed the effects of grain sizes on the slurry flow characteristics in horizontal pipelines implementing RNG k-ɛ turbulence model. Pani et al [18] studied the rheological behaviour of coal ash slurry and investigated the effects of chosen additives on it. Assefa and Kaushal [19] carried the experimental investigations on bottom/fly-ash slurry with/without additions of fly/bottom ash in order to evaluate its rheological behaviour.…”

“…Pani et al [18] studied the additives effect on the rheological behaviour of coal ash slurry. Assefa and Kaushal [19] carried out the experiment by adding the fly ash slurry in the bottom ash slurry and evaluated the rheological characteristics that results the decrease in yield stress and viscosity of the slurry. Later, the CFD simulation of sand water flow in a horizontal pipeline was by Swamy et al [20].…”

“…Moreover, pipelines can be laid in difficult geographic areas, reduce traffic, require little maintenance, and are reliable and operational throughout the year. 2,3 In previous years, several investigations [4][5][6][7] have been carried out to determine the rheological characteristics of multiparticulate slurry at different solid concentrations with and without additives. Zhu et al 4 investigated the effect of starch-based dispersants on the physical and chemical properties of a coal-water slurry.…”
