“…80 While the experimental setup used by Wilcox and colleagues in anesthetized rats 77 was unsuitable to track BP changes, ligation of all hilar and capsular lymphatics in 5 dogs acutely induced a transient 20 mm Hg increase in BP that gradually but incompletely returned toward baseline in 15 weeks. 81 Some degree of persisting systolic hypertension at that time cannot be excluded. Similarly, it is unknown whether these animals developed any salt sensitivity or if unresolved edema could slowly progress to interstitial fibrosis 82 and reduced creatinine clearance, as suggested in rats.…”

“…The importance of renal lymphatics in fluid balance was demonstrated as early as the 1960s. Renal lymphatic ligation was reported to result in renal oedema, increased urine volume and, surprisingly, increased BP in several studies (Barer and Ward-Mcquaid, 1957;Lilienfeld et al, 1967). Zhang et al (2008) later demonstrated that dual renal lymphatic ligation was as detrimental to kidney function as a nephrectomy.…”
