Aim: This research was conducted to determine the relationship between midwifery students' attitudes towards marriage and their fear of birth. Method: A cross-sectional and relation-seeking study was conducted with students from the Department of Midwifery, Faculty of Health Sciences, of two universities in eastern Turkey. In the study, all midwifery students studying at both universities were tried to be reached, rather than sampling. The study was completed with 372 midwifery students who participated in the study on a voluntary basis. The data of the study were collected with “Personal Information Form”, “Inonu Marriage Attitude Scale (IMAS)” and “Women Childbirth Fear – Prior to Pregnancy Scale (WCF-PPS)”. In the evaluation of the data, number, percentage distributions, mean, standard deviation, Independent t-test, One-Way Anova, Tukey and correlation tests were used in SPSS (25.0) statistical package program. Results: The mean age of the students was 20.71±1.55. 80.1% of the students have an immediate family, 54.3% live in the city center, 96.8% do not work, and 56.7% of them have income equal to their expenses. The total mean scores of the students from IMAS and WCF-PPS are respectively; 69.73±20.01 and 36.37±12.00. AIM: To determine the relationship between the dysmenorrhea status of nursing faculty students and their birth beliefs about their planned pregnancies and their fears of birth. METHOD: The universe of the research consisted of all female students studying in the faculty of nursing in the 2020-2021 academic year between March-April 2021. No sample selection was made in the study, and a total of 521 female students were reached during the study. RESULTS: The mean age of the students participating in the study was 21.12±1.69 and it was determined that 87.7% of them had dysmenorrhea and the mean VAS score was 6.58±1.94. When the total scores of the students from the scales are examined; The mean FEDS functional sub-dimension score was 24.31±8.21, the emotional sub-dimension mean score was 19.53±8.64, and the total scale mean score was 43.84±16.03. The mean score of the natural process sub-dimension of BBS was 19.20±5.45 and the mean score of the medical process sub-dimension was 20.94±4.82. On the other hand, the mean score of FPF-PFBS was calculated as 41.64±13.34. CONCLUSION: This study emphasizes that students with dysmenorrhea in nursing faculty perceive birth as a medical process and their fear of birth before pregnancy is high.

Premenstrual Syndrome and Childbirth Fear Prior to Pregnancy in Young Women: An Association and Cross-Sectional Study

OBJECTIVE:The aim of the study was to determine the association between premenstrual syndrome and the childbirth fear prior to pregnancy. METHODS: This was an association and cross-sectional study conducted on 327 university students. Data were collected using "Participant Information Form, " "Premenstrual Syndrome Scale, " and "Childbirth Fear-Prior to Pregnancy Scale. " RESULTS: It was found that the childbirth fear had increased in students with premenstrual syndrome. The Women Childbirth Fear-Prior to Pregnancy Scale score was statistically significantly higher among students who preferred caesarean section than those who preferred vaginal delivery. There was a weak, positive, and statistically significant correlation between the students' depressive sensation, anxiety, fatigue, nervousness, depressive thoughts, pain, appetite changes, sleep pattern changes, and bloating subscales of Premenstrual Syndrome Scale and Women Childbirth Fear-Prior to Pregnancy Scale. CONCLUSION: The score of the Women Childbirth Fear-Prior to Pregnancy Scale increases with an increase in the score of the Premenstrual Syndrome subscale. It should be evaluated whether or not women experiencing premenstrual syndrome have the childbirth fear prior to pregnancy.
