The Effect of Precipitates on Corrosion Resistance of Alloy 28 Tubing in Sour Environments

Complete List of Authors: Li, Cheng-yong xiang, zuping chen, zhonghua zhang, ran Abstract: N08028 alloy, an important candidate corrosion-resistant material used for down-hole tubing in the severe corrosive environment, was investigated for the characteristics of precipitate and their effect on corrosion resistance. The microstructure of the precipitates was observed by the optical microscope and scanning election microscopy (SEM), and the type and chemical composition were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The precipitates rich in C, Cr and Mo in N08028 alloy, which are mostly σ phase and Cr 23 C 6 . The corrosion resistance of N08028 alloy with precipitates had lower intergranular corrosion and stress corrosion cracking resistance than without precipitates.
