Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical results of 323 porcelain laminate veneers over a period of 3 to 11 years. Material and Methods: This study included 70 patients, aged between 18 and 74 years. Of the 323 total veneers, 124 were of a simple design and 199 were of a functional design. The condition of the soft tissues and hygiene, in addition to the condition of the abutment teeth, the restorations and patient satisfaction were all clinically examined. In carrying out the statistical analysis, a descriptive approach was taken in analyzing the data. The Kaplan Meier method was used for statistically analyzing the survival rates of the porcelain laminate veneers. Results: Analysis of the soft tissue revealed marginal recession in 7.7% of the cases, and in 21.6% of the cases, bleeding was detected on probing. Analysis of the condition of the abutment teeth revealed secondary caries and hypersensitivity in 3.1% of the cases, and changes in pulp vitality were observed in 2.8% of the cases. In studying the condition of the restorations, marginal integrity was observed to be excellent in 98% of the cases, slight marginal pigmentation was present in 39.3% of the cases, fractures were present in 4% of the cases and decementation in 9% of the cases. The degree of patient satisfaction was considered to be excellent in 97.1% of the cases. Conclusions: Porcelain laminate veneers are a predicable treatment option that offer excellent results.

The primary goal of periodontal therapy is to produce an environment that is conducive to oral health. This is achieved by eliminating the subgingival infection and implementing supragingival plaque control measures designed to prevent the re-colonization of the sulcus. Local etiologic factors, as described above, my prevent the removal of subgingival plaque, and may even contribute to destruction of the periodontal tissues. Thus, it is crucial to be able to recognize and, when possible, eliminate any plaque-retentive factor that could contribute to disease progression. Iatrogenic factors such as subgingival margins, restorative overhangs, overcontoured restorations and unpolished surfaces can be altered. Similarly, cervical enamel projections, enamel pearls and, in certain instances, palatal grooves can be removed or recontoured to enable the patient to access the area for good plaque control. There are some things that we cannot alter. Anatomic anomalies, particularly in posterior teeth, cannot be changed. However, awareness of potential anatomic variations and early detection of them may be able to prevent future attachment loss.

ÖzetDişeti oluğu sıvısı (DOS) kendine özel yapısı nedeniyle periodontal sağlık ve hastalık hakkında bilgi verme potansiyeline sahiptir. Bu yapısı nedeniyle sıvının teşhis basamağında önemli veriler sunabileceği düşünülmektedir. DOS örneklerinin elde edilmesi girişimsel olmayan ve objektif değerlendirmeye izin veren bir süreç olması, bölgesel düzeyde incelemelere olanak vermesi tanısal potansiyelinin önemli bir unsurunu oluşturmaktadır. DOS'un elde edilmesinde kullanılan değişik yöntemler vardır. Her değerlendirme yönteminin kendisine ait avantaj ve dezavantajları mevcuttur. Günümüzde henüz kabul edilmiş ideal DOS örnekleme protokolü mevcut değildir. Son yıllarda ideal bir DOS örnekleme stratejisinin geliştirilmesine yönelik önerilere literatürde sıklıkla rastlanmaktadır. Birçok çalışmada örneklemelerin elde edilmesi sürecinde hacimsel ve içerik değişimlerine neden olabilecek bazı potansiyel faktörlerin gözetilmesi gerekliliğinin altı çizilmektedir. Bu faktörlerden bazıları ana hatlarıyla; DOS elde edilmesi ve hacminin belirlenmesi sürecinde dikkat edilmesi gereken hususlar ve çevresel (buharlaşma, oda sıcaklığı-nem vb.) faktörlerdir. Bu derlemenin amacı DOS'nın elde edilmesi ve değerlendirme sürecinde metodolojik açıdan, sıvıya etki edebilecek potansiyel faktörleri (kısmen veya tamamen kontrol edilebilen-edilemeyen) ele almak ve sistematik olarak irdelemektir.
