The Effect of Oxidants on the Formation of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotube Buckypaper

Abstract: In the present study, we report the systematic investigation of the effect of chemical oxidation on the structure of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes buckypaper. The chemical oxidation of multi-walled carbon nanotubes was performed via using three types of chemical solutions: nitric acid, sulfuric acid/nitric acid (3/1) and ammonium hydroxide/hydrogen peroxide (1/1). The surfaces of the multi-walled carbon nanotubes were modified by forming Carboxyl and other functional … Show more

“…Chemical oxidation of MWCNTs was carried out with a mixture of H 2 SO 4 and HNO 3 acids in the ratio of 3:1 for 3 h after annealing and treating in HCl acid for impurity removing. Details of MWCNT functionalization can be found in a previous (work of our group) [24].…”

“…As carbon matrix, MWCNT buckypapers are popular because they offer unique features such as flexibility, ability to be free-standing, having porous structure and good mechanical stability. Carbon nano tube paper, also called buckypapers, are self-supporting networks of entangled CNT assemblies arranged in a random fashion and held together by van der Waals interactions at the tube-tube junctions [10]. In this study; SnO 2 /Sn double phase structure formed on the MWCNT buckypapers via thermal evaporation and subsequent plasma oxidation.…”

“…Purication and chemical oxidation of MWCNTs was carried out with dierent oxidation agents [9]. Aqueous MWCNTs suspension was sonicated for 1 h to form a well dispersed suspension which was subsequently vacuum ltered through PVDF membrane lters of 220 nm pore size to form buckypapers.…”
