Minerals have crucial roles in terms of vital function in the organism including hormones, enzymes, cell formation etc. Oxidative stress and related hormones, regarding infectious diseases, affect all functions of body including mineral taking, metabolism and excretion. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the pox disease on blood minerals composition of sheep and lambs. This study was conducted on 20 healthy sheep, 20 poxvirus infected sheep and their lambs (Totally 80 subjects). One-shot blood samples from sheep and lambs were collected and serums were separated immediately. Serum mineral levels were analysed in the atomic absorption spectrophotometer. In general, the level of Cu in infected animals was higher than in healthy ones. Zn, Fe, Mg and Na levels of healthy animals were found higher than infected subjects. The difference between healthy and infected animal groups for serum Ca and K levels was not significant. Positive correlations were found between serum Zn, Fe, Mg and Na levels. However, a negative correlation was found between Cu-Zn and Cu-Fe pairs. Consequently, Cu, Zn, Fe, Mg and Na levels in serum, which are vital for animal organisms, showed significant changes in sheep and their lambs during poxvirus infection. To rapid healing or prevention of the diseases, mineral disorders must be corrected urgently.

Summary:The oral zinc (Zn) applications may be required in the case of Zn losses in the body. Lots of Zn forms and compounds are used for this aim. Sulfate form of Zn is used in a widespread manner with in distillated water or other diluent solutions. The purpose of this study is to reveal the effect of some acidifier agents as diluent solutions (therapeutic dose of ascorbic acid in distillated water and pure vinegar of grapes) versus distillated water, well known and commonly used. Thirty New Zealand rabbits in three equal groups were used in this study. Zinc sulfate solutions with different diluents as above were given to groups orally. Before and after (2,5 hours later) oral applications, blood samples were collected via cardiac puncture under general diethyl ether anesthesia. Atomic absorption spectrometer equipped with flame system was employed. Significant differences (p≤0.001) were found between first and last serum Zn levels in all groups. There were also significant differences among last samples of groups (minimum p<0.05). Throughout the experiment time significant differences were found between control group and acidifier groups (ascorbic acid and vinegar of grapes) (p<0.05), but not between two acidifier groups (p>0.05). Significant correlation was detected between pH and serum Zn levels of oral solutions (r = -0.838, p<0.001). It was also observed that the oral solutions pH of ZnSO 4 influenced the serum Zn level significantly (r 2 : 70.1%, p<0.001). Consequently, the acidity of oral ZnSO 4 fortification solution affected the serum Zn level. While the pH level of oral ZnSO 4 solutions was decreasing, serum Zn level increased. Bu amaçla çok sayıda Zn formu veya bileşiği kullanılmaktadır. Zn'nin sülfat formu geniş çapta safsu veya diğer sulandırma solüsyonları ile birlikte yaygın bir şekilde kullanılmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, sulandırma solüsyonları halinde bazı asitleştirici ajanların (saf su içinde tedavi dozunda askorbik asit ve saf üzüm sirkesi) iyi bilinen ve yaygın bir şekilde kullanılan saf suya karşı etkisinin ortaya konmasıdır. Bu çalışmada üç eşit grup halinde 30 Yeni Zelanda ırkı tavşan kullanıldı. Yukarıda bahsedildiği gibi farklı sulandırmalar ile ZnSO 4 gruplara oral yolla verildi. Oral uygulama öncesi ve 2,5 saat sonrası dietil eter genel anestezisi altında kalpten kan örnekleri alındı. Alev sistemli atomik absorbsiyon spektrofotometre kullanıldı. ÖzetBu araştırmada Japon bıldırcınlarında (Coturnix coturnix japonica) rasyona yüksek düzeylerde bakır ilavesinin tiroit hormonları ve bazı kan değerleri üzerine etkilerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada materyal olarak 1 günlük toplam 64 Japon bıldırcını kullanıldı. Civcivler 4 gruba ayrıldı ve 40 gün süreyle 0 mg/kg (kontrol, grup I), 100 mg/kg (grup II), 250 mg/kg (grup III) ve 500 mg/kg (grup IV) bakır ilave edilen rasyonla beslendi. Hematokrit değer, akyuvar sayısı, akyuvarların yüzde oranı, serum tiroit uyarıcı hormon (TSH) ve serbest triiyodotironin (ST3) düzeyleri gruplar arasında farklılık göstermedi (P>0.05). Serum bakır düzeyleri bakır ilave edilen gruplarda (grup II, III, IV) arttı (P<0.05). Rasyona bakır ilavesi bütün deneme gruplarında (grup II, III, IV) alyuvar sayısı ve serum serbest ST4 düzeylerinde azalmaya (P<0.05) neden oldu. Hemoglobin miktarı kontrol grubu ve grup II ile karşılaştırıldığında grup III ve grup IV'te önemli bir şekilde (P<0.05) arttı. Rasyona 500 mg/kg bakır ilavesi grup IV'te, diğer gruplarla karşılaştırıldığında canlı ağırlık kazancında azalmaya neden oldu (P<0.05). Sonuç olarak, bu araştırmada elde edilen veriler, bakır fazlalığının tiroit hormonları üzerine etkilerini ortaya koyması ve ileride yapılacak araştırmaları kaynak teşkil etmesi bakımından önemlidir.
