We report the results of the measurement the ac conductivity of a Nb superconducting thin film in a swept dc magnetic field. In the mixed state the swept dc field creates vortices at the film surface which pass through the film and form the observed ac conductivity. Vortex rate generation does not depend on the value of the dc field and there is a large plateau-like region of dc magnetic fields where the dissipation is approximately constant. A proposed phenomenological model describes quite well the main features of the ac response in these fields including its dependency on the sweep rate, ac amplitude, frequency, and value of the second and third harmonics.

The upper critical field Hc2(T) of the A15 compound .1 ) has been measured as a function of temperature T for various compositions and levels of irradiation with fast reactor neutrons. Compositions ranging from 19 to 29 at % Pt and neutron fluences up to 16 • 101Sn/cme (E> 1 Me V) were studied. A sto&hiometric sample that had been rapidly quenched from the liquid ("splat-cooled") was also investigated. For the unirradiated samples, Tc exhibits a maximum of 10.4 K at the stoichiometric composition, while both Hce(O) and dH~2(T)/dT[T=To attain their maximum values on the Pt-rich side of stoichiometry. The irradiated samples show a decrease of Hoe(O) with increasing neutron fluence. The results are discussed in terms of antisite disorder and a strong correlation is obtained between decreasing Hc2(O) and increasing disorder of the Nb atomic sites.
