“…Both the ordinary least squares and quantile regression results suggest that informal support has positive effects, but these effects become weak among relatively high-performing enterprises. These results may be considered similar to previous investigations that found positive effects of the network on the performance of new start-ups, such as Durda and Ključnikov ( 2019 ) and Albourini et al ( 2020 ), or those on the effects of social capital on the performance of new start-ups, such as Liao and Welsch ( 2005 ) and Westlund et al ( 2014 ). Our empirical results are consistent with those previous studies, but their results do not imply that the magnitude of their effects differ according to performance.…”

“… 2 There are several studies of social networks following Granovetter ( 1973 ) on weak ties, e.g., Durda and Ključnikov ( 2019 ) and Albourini et al ( 2020 ), and on social capital, e.g., Liao and Welsch ( 2005 ) and Westlund et al ( 2014 ). There are also several studies that stress the roles of business incubation on new start-ups, e.g., Al-Mubaraki and Busler ( 2013 ) and Scagnelli et al ( 2019 ).…”

“…They noted that online communities can create a co-production of information. An individual sharing the knowledge that he/she has gained via the community can provide valuable feedback to the producer regarding making a product more user-friendly or improving its quality [46][47][48].…”

“…Multiple linear regression and factor analysis are widely used to quantify a startup's profits and success. For example, Albourini et al assume that a startup making profits represents success, and he uses variables such as entrepreneurial enthusiasm to predict the success of startups based on Multiple linear regression [5]. Kimuli and Isaac further adopt a simple linear regression model to study the effect of different fund spending on profit for startups, demonstrating there is a significant positive relationship between those two [6].…”
