The effect of naltrexone as a carboplatin chemotherapy-associated drug on the immune response, quality of life and survival of dogs with mammary carcinoma

Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of low-dose naltrexone (LDN) as a carboplatin chemotherapy-associated drug in female dogs with mammary carcinoma in benign mixed tumors (MC-BMT) after mastectomy and to assess its association with quality of life and survival rates. Sixty female dogs were included in this study, all of which had histopathological diagnosis of MC-BMT and were divided into three groups: G1 (control), consisting of animals submitted only to mastectomy with or without regional… Show more

“…Dogs are commonly described as animal models for human breast cancer study, based on clinicopathologic similarities between canine and human mammary carcinomas ( 27 ). The present study aimed to evaluate the serum concentration of resistin in female dogs with CBMT, the most frequent histological type of breast tumor in this species, as well as its possible correlation with body condition, tumor aggressiveness, and survival rate ( 28 , 29 , 38 , 39 ).…”

“…Chemotherapy and radiation therapy are effective for the treatment of feline nasal lymphoma, and surgery is not required (4). Despite the effectiveness in treating feline nasal lymphoma, chemotherapy and radiation have significant limitations; both have severe side effects, including bone marrow suppression and skin ulcers (5)(6)(7)(8). Moreover, treatment is restricted by a repeated requirement for anaesthesia and high cost.…”
