“…Randomized trials have shown reduced morbidity and mortality in preterm infants following the daily application of sunflower seed oil (SSO) in developing countries [5]. Moreover, the neurological maturation of preterm infants was found to improve with a multimodal stimulation technique using a mixture of natural oils (sunflower, rape and grape seed oil) or almond oil [10]. Natural oils like SSO contain the essential fatty acids linoleic acid (ω-6) and α-linolenic acid (ω-3), contributing to skin barrier and neurological development, whereas emollients with high oleic acid content (nonessential fatty acid, ω-9), e.g.…”

“…Åtta studier (14,17,20,(24)(25)(26)(27)(28) med sammanlagt 590 prematura barn har undersökt spädbarnmassagens effekt på barnens beteende och utveckling, se tabell 2. I samtliga studier ses en signifikant förbättring.…”

“…The studies identified for inclusion were narrowed down to full text articles written in English. Studies that compared the effectiveness of different massage oils were excluded; this was because massage oil brought out concerns, such as allergic reactions and a change of triglyceride and fatty acid profile [9,10]. A total of 12 articles were selected by two independent reviewers ( Figure 1) [3,6,8,[11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19].…”
