Objectives: The quality of recovery can affect the results of abdominal hysterectomy although this effect is unknown in different methods of anesthesia. Therefore, the present study was conducted to compare general anesthesia (GA) and spinal anesthesia (SA) methods on the quality of the recovery of patients with selective abdominal hysterectomy in patients visiting the largest women’s disease hospital in Northwestern Iran. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with the participation of 350 patients with abdominal hysterectomy, who were selected by convenience sampling in Al-Zahra hospital, Tabriz, Iran in 2019. Demographic data, visual pain scale, hemodynamic status, and Aldrete-Kroulik index were recorded for each patient. Data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney, t-test, multivariate regression, and Kolmogorov-Simonov tests in SPSS 20, and P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: In the hemodynamic status, it was found that the SA group was more stable than the GA group but this difference was not significant (P>0.05). Regarding the need for pethidine, the results revealed that the mean (± standard deviation) of the GA group was significantly higher (35.14 ± 10.14) than that of the SA group (20.15 ± 05.25, P=0.039) while there were no significant differences between the two groups in the use of the antiemetic drug (P=0.203). Finally, the evaluations of the quality of recovery showed that the mean±) SD) of the quality of recovery in SA patients was significantly higher compared to GA patients (P=0.015). Conclusions: In general, the quality of recovery was higher in the SA compared to the GA regarding abdominal hysterectomy.

Weight‐loss interventions for improving emotional eating among adults with high body mass index: A systematic review with meta‐analysis and meta‐regression

Objectives To evaluate the effectiveness of weight‐loss interventions on emotional eating among adults with high body mass index (BMI). Methods A systematic review, meta‐analysis and meta‐regression were performed on randomized controlled trials published from inception until 19 March 2021. Results Thirty‐one studies were included, representing 1203 participants with mean ages ranging from 21.8 to 57.3 years old and BMI 27.2–43.5 kg/m2. We found small‐to‐medium interventional effects on emotional eating (n = 18; Hedges' g = 0.22; p = 0.01, I2 = 61.7%), uncontrolled eating (n = 16; Hedges' g = 0.46; p < 0.001, I2 = 71.6%) and cognitive restraint (n = 18; Hedges' g = 0.42; p < 0.001, I2 = 75.8%). Small‐to‐medium interventional effects were only found for emotional eating (n = 8; Hedges' g = 0.45; p = 0.02, I2 = 74.3%) 3‐month post‐intervention, and on BMI (n = 4; Hedges' g = 0.43; p < 0.05, I2 = 33.4%) and weight (n = 6; Hedges' g = 0.36; p < 0.01, I2 < 10.4%) 12‐month post‐intervention. Age, male proportion, baseline BMI, attrition rate and intervention length were not significant moderators of the heterogeneity between studies. Conclusion Interventions improved emotional eating and weight loss along a year‐long trajectory.

Objectives: It is necessary to prevent postoperative infection following abdominal hysterectomy. The present study aimed to assess the relationship of anthropometric indices with vitamin D, zinc (Zn), and fasting blood sugar (FBS) levels in women with and without infection following abdominal hysterectomy in order to determine the exact effects of these factors on infection. Materials and Methods: This case-control study was conducted in three teaching hospitals affiliated with Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in an 18-month period leading up to 2020. The participants consisted of 90 women who were candidates for abdominal hysterectomy. Anthropometric indices and vitamin D, Zn, and FBS levels were measured before the surgery. These factors were compared in the two groups of women with and without infection using the independent t-test and Pearson correlation coefficient, and P<0.05 was statistically significant. Results: No significant relationship was found between vitamin D, Zn, and FBS levels and anthropometric indices except for body mass index (BMI) that had a significant negative relationship with vitamin D blood levels (r = -0.20 and P = 0.043) while a significant positive relationship with FBS levels (r= +30 and P = 0.036) in infected patients. Therefore, patients with a higher BMI showed lower vitamin D whereas higher FBS levels in the group with infection. Conclusions: In general, vitamin D levels decreased and FBS levels increased by an increase in the BMI. These factors altogether increased the risk of postoperative infection following abdominal hysterectomy.
