The effect of methyl jasmonate on accumulation of 2-phenylethylamine and putrescine in seedlings of common buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum)

Abstract: The effects of exogenously applied methyl jasmonate on content of biogenic amines: putrescine, spermidine, tyramine, cadaverine and 2-phenylethylamine in seedlings of common buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) were investigated. The studies have shown that methyl jasmonate stimulates the conversion of L-phenylalanine into 2-phenylethylamine and increases the endogenous levels of putrescine in hypocotyls and cotyledons of buckwheat seedlings. Simultaneous feeding the seedlings with L-phenylalanine and methy… Show more

“…Our findings could also be attributed to the fact that MJ affects many metabolic processes and therefore objective conclusions are difficult to formulate. One of such processes involves the accumulation of large amounts of 2-phenylethylamine [20,29]. According to Seltman et al [30], natural senescence differs from stressinduced senescence.…”

“…The potency of MJ to trigger an accumulation of diverse secondary metabolites in plants has been widely reported (Pauwels et al, 2008;Horbowicz et al, 2011;Ruiz-May et al, 2011;Concha et al, 2013). The majority of these studies were related to the metabolism of phenylpropanoids, indole alkaloids and terpenoids (Pauwels et al, 2008;Chen et al, 2013).…”

Transcriptomic analyses performed by Chen et al (2013) demonstrated that MJ evoked rapid and circumstantial alternations in the expression pattern of genes involved in the biogenesis of indole alkaloids, terpenoids and putative phenylpropanoids pathways in the hairy roots of Isatis indigotica L. plants.…”
