Hospitals face challenges to improve efficiency in order to meet an increasing demand for high quality of care and low costs. Industry-based methods such as lean healthcare (LH) are implemented to improve healthcare systems. This study presents a LH implementation following the DMAIC approach (Define-Measure-Analysis-Improve-Control) in a Mexican public hospital, and contributes to the literature by analyzing the relation of waste reduction and sustainability. We focused on improving the medical supply chain from a temporary warehouse (TW) to the operating room (OR). Therefore, we analyzed the value stream including main surgical procedures and their related medical supplies, and identified different causes of inefficiency, which were evaluated and controlled. As a result, five types of waste were reduced through different tools including: value stream map, Kanban, 5’s, among others. Over-processing requests were reduced 15.3%; similarly, defective identification numbers were reduced up to 46.5%, redundant processing was improved by 94.8%, unnecessary inventories were reduced near to 2.8% of the TW inventory, and transportation waste was reduced up to 16.7%. As a consequence, the lead-time for the main supplies was reduced 33 days. Results indicate that LH and DMAIC are effective to reduce waste and highly conducive to improve healthcare process sustainability.

The present paper reports on studying synchronous flow implementation, as a lean supply chain tools, through a collaborative relationship with suppliers. This involves consolidating with a new contribution to the development and application of a supply chain collaboration framework between automotive constructor and first-tier equipment suppliers to achieve the synchronous flow of components. The objective is to provide the automotive companies with a decision-making tool for selecting strategic suppliers to collaborate with, examining the collaboration context in terms of motivators, drivers, and barriers and evaluating the collaboration performance. Therefore, our contribution is structured as follows. As a first step, an overview of papers reporting on collaboration, lean supply chain, and synchronous flow is provided to identify the key elements of successful collaboration relationships. As a result, a preliminary framework is elaborated. The second step described the case study of a leading automotive firm “RENAULT” and its suppliers in Morocco. Based on semi-structured interviews conducted with participants from these companies, the preliminary framework was improved. The next section discusses the obtained results as well as the improved framework. Finally, conclusions and suggestions for further works are included.

A 21. században az egyik, ha nem a legfontosabb „fegyver” az információ. Felgyorsult világunkban mindenki azonnal tudni szeretne mindent, illetve a cégeknek is csak úgy van esélye talpon maradni, ha azonnali, naprakész információt biztosítanak. Ezen igények következtében zajlik napjainkban egy digitalizációs forradalom, ismertebb nevén az Ipar 4.0, amelynek megoldásai alapjaiban fogják megváltoztatni a versenyszférát és a munkaerőpiacot. A digitalizáció megkönnyíti a kommunikációt, az információ gyorsabb, pontosabb áramlását teszi lehetővé és számos új technológiát eredményez. Ezek bevezetéséről viszont a vállalatok vezetése és a munkavállalók között nem feltétlen van egyetértés. Azon vállalatok, amelyek nem lesznek képesek lépést tartani, most könnyebben elveszíthetik akár piacvezető szerepüket, mint valaha. Jelen cikk keretében a szerzők bemutatják a digitalizáció jelentőségét és kihívásait a nagyvállalatok életében, valamint a vállalati logisztikában.
