The Effect of Juingong Meditation on the Theta to Alpha Ratio in the Temporoparietal and Anterior Frontal EEG Recordings

Abstract: (1) Background: The effect of Juingong meditation on brainwave patterns has not been explored yet. This study aimed to study the changes in brainwave patterns produced by Juingong meditation, through electroencephalography (EEG) measurements. (2) Methods: The study included 23 participants from the Hanmaum Seon Center in Korea. EEG measurements were performed using InteraXon’s four-channel EEG measurement equipment, Muse. It measures EEG patterns in the temporoparietal and anterior frontal lobes. Brainwaves we… Show more

“…Comparing our results with the existing results in the literature, in a study, meditation improved relaxed alertness and internalised attention by increasing amplitude in the alpha and theta waves (23) . There is a high frequency in attention and a low frequency in meditation in delta, theta, alpha, beta, and gamma waves (24) .…”

“…This ratio has various implications for mental wellbeing, promoting reduced stress, improved emotional balance, and creative thinking. Techniques such as mindfulness, deep relaxation practices, and creative activities can help achieve and maintain this state, contributing to overall psychological health and resilience [10,11]. To date, there have been recent EEG studies on various aromatic oil inhalation to improve participants mood, cognition and vigilance [4,12,13,14].…”

“…One of the other healing techniques, Juingong meditation, has several healing experiences. Kim et al explained the effects of Juingong meditation on the temporal and frontal regions of the brain using the alpha-theta ratio [45]. Another study demonstrated the impact of 40 Hz binaural beats accelerated the training outcome for an attentional blink (AB) task [46].…”
