The effect of inter-connection properties on the lateral behaviour of moment-frame modular steel structures

Mostafa Farajian,
Mohammad Iman Khodakarami,
Denise-Penelope N. Kontoni
et al.

Abstract: Recently, there has been a push for the adoption of pre-fabricated modular units in constructing low to high-rise buildings mainly due to the reduction of material waste and construction time. These units are manufactured in a factory and then transported to the construction site for assembly through inter-connections to create a building block. The unique nature of these inter-connections is crucial for the structural performance of modular buildings as they provide modular structure integrity. Despite the gro… Show more

“…Steel reinforced concrete (SRC) frame structures exhibit excellent structural performance (Tong et al, [26]; Hassan et al, [11]; Gupta et al, [8]; Gautham & Sahoo, [7]; Liu et al, [15]) and are widely used in high-rise buildings and large-span venue buildings to enhance lateral stiffness (Rao et al, [20]; Farajian et al, [4]). Additionally, SRC structures possess good mechanical properties and better seismic resistance (Bajaj & Yadav, [2]; Xie et al, [31]; Ro et al, [21]).…”
