The Effect of Initial pH on Pistachio Processing Industrial Wastewater Pre-treatment by Electrocoagulation Method

Abstract: Abstract-In this study, removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total phenols (TP) from pistachio processing industry wastewater was investigated using electrocoagulation method. COD and TP removal efficiencies were compared considering wastewater initial pH by using stainless steel cathodes and aluminum anodes. To determine the effect of initial pH on removal efficiency, 4, 5.2 (original wastewater pH), 6 and 7 pH were investigated. Results showed that optimum values of operating variables wastewater init… Show more

“…It could be an integration of the electrochemical method with physical, chemical, biological methods. The advantages of this integration are the effective removal of organic and inorganic pollutants [146], low operating costs [142], the increase of the performance of the electrodes and the reduction of the energy demand of the electrochemical method [147].…”

“…Electron oxidation process using graphite anode and examined electrocoagulation process using aluminum electrode planes investigated in the treatment of pistachio processing wastewater (8,9). Furthermore, Bayar et al in Turkey, examined the effect of pH on the pretreatment of pistachio processing wastewater by electro-coagulation process (10). As no research has been conducted so far on the adaptation of wastewater, the aim of this research was to investigate the possibility of discharging the pistachio processing wastewater into the urban wastewater network of urban wastewater treatment plants through activated sludge method.…”
