SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: Autoimmune hepatitis is a rare inflammatory disease of the liver that is characterized by elevated liver enzymes. The hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet score, which is derived from hemoglobin, serum albumin, circulating lymphocyte count, and platelet count, is also associated with inflammatory conditions. The aim was to examine the hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet score of patients with autoimmune hepatitis and to compare it to that of healthy individuals in this retrospective analysis. METHODS: Subjects diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis were enrolled in the study, and healthy individuals were enrolled as controls. Moreover, autoimmune hepatitis subjects were grouped into mild or moderate/advanced fibrosis. Furthermore, aspartate to platelet ratio index, Fibrosis-4, and hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet scores of the autoimmune hepatitis patients and controls were compared. In addition, the hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet score of the autoimmune hepatitis patients with mild fibrosis is compared to that of those with moderate/advanced fibrosis. RESULTS: The mean hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet score of the autoimmune hepatitis patients was 44.2±14.5 while this value was 76.8±15.5 in control subjects. The hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet score was significantly reduced in autoimmune hepatitis patients than healthy controls (p<0.001). The hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet score was significantly and negatively correlated with C-reactive protein, aspartate, alanine transaminase, gamma glutamyl transferase, aspartate to platelet ratio index, and Fibrosis-4 values. A hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet score that was lower than 52.3 had 83% sensitivity and 73% specificity in predicting autoimmune hepatitis. The sensitivity and specificity of the hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet score were higher than the Fibrosis-4 score in predicting moderate/advanced fibrosis in autoimmune hepatitis. CONCLUSION: We suggest that the hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet score be used as an additional noninvasive diagnostic tool for autoimmune hepatitis and to predict moderate/advanced liver fibrosis in patients with autoimmune hepatitis.

Gastric malignancies constitute the sixth most common cancer with regards to incidence and have the fifth most mortality rates. Extended lymph-node dissection is the surgical modality of choice while treating advanced stage gastric cancer. It is yet a topic of debate, whether or not the amount of positive lymph nodes after a pathological examination following the surgical intervention is of prognostic value. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the prognostic significance of positive lymph nodes following the surgery. A total of 193 patients who underwent curative gastrectomy between January 2011 and December 2015 have been considered for a retrospective data collection. The cases with R1-R2 resections, palliative or emergent surgeries are excluded. Metastatic to total number of lymph nodes, corresponded a ratio which was analyzed in this survey and practiced as a predictive parameter of disease outcome. This survey includes 138 male (71.5%) and 55 female (28.5%) patients treated between 2011 and 2015 in our clinic. The survey follow-up duration of the cases range between 0, 2, and 72 months, corresponding an average of 23.24 ± 16.99 months. We calculated cutoff value of 0.09 with, sensitivity is 76.32% for positive to total number of lymph nodes ratio, whereas specivity applies for 64.10%, positive predictive value for 58% and negative predictive value for 80.6%. Positive lymph node ratio has a prognostic value in terms of predicting the prognosis of the patients with gastric adenocarcinoma following a curative gastrectomy. This might in long term contribute to the prognostic analysis of patients if integrated in the current staging system.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the preoperative haemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet score as a prognostic indicator in oral squamous cell carcinoma treated by radical surgery.Subjects and MethodsPatients (83 men, 32 women; 65.80 ± 11.47 years) who underwent radical surgery between 2012 and 2022 were included. Factors affecting overall survival and disease‐free survival according to the haemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet score were examined. Patients were categorised into low‐ and high‐score groups using optimal cut‐off values obtained from receiver operating characteristic curve analysis.ResultsThe low‐score group had poorer overall and disease‐free survival (p < 0.001 each). Multivariate analysis identified alcohol consumption (hazard ratio [HR], 3.83; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.56–9.41, p = 0.003); vascular invasion (HR, 3.97; 95% CI: 1.60–9.85, p = 0.003); and the haemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet score (HR, 0.39; 95% CI: 0.20–0.78, p = 0.007) as independent prognostic factors for overall survival and vascular (HR, 3.66; 95% CI: 1.79–7.50, p < 0.001) and lymphovascular (HR, 2.44; 95% CI: 1.36–4.41, p = 0.003) invasion as independent prognostic factors for disease‐free survival.ConclusionThe preoperative haemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet score may be a significant prognostic factor for patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma undergoing radical surgery.
