Abstract: Both prophylactic and therapeutic administration of endostatin inhibited type II CIA in mice. The administration method using an osmotic pump is useful.

“…Age-matched 8–10-week-old control and S100A9−/− mice were immunized with adjuvant (complete Freund's on day 0 and incomplete Freund's on day 21)+100 mg bovine type II collagen in a 0.1 mL 1:1 v/v mixture of adjuvant+collagen injected subcutaneously into the base of the tail, similar to previously published reports (3, 11). Mice were assessed by a blinded observer for paw swelling and clinical disease until experiment termination when hindlimbs were processed for histopathology, as described above.…”

“…In RA, VEGF has been reported to be present in the synovial fluid and serum of RA patients, and closely involved in arthritis pathogenesis, particularly angiogenesis [10][11][12]. Therefore, in this study, we examined the relationship between the degree of blood flow signals in the synovium and serum VEGF levels.…”

“…Thus, the use of osmotic minipumps is not linked solely to the SCID mouse model, but could also be applied to other animal models such as CIA or AIA. Indeed, Kurosaka and coworkers used this device for the administration of endostatin in CIA induced arthritis in mice 24. In this study, the continously administration of endostatin using osmotic pumps over 14 days and a daily therapeutic administration resulted in inhibition of CIA in mice.…”
