The Effect of Emotional Labor on Burnout of Soccer Coaches

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of emotional labor on burnout. To this end, after selecting the leaders registered with the Korea Football Association and the Korea Football Leaders Federation in 2020, the researchers visited soccer fields in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Gangwon-do to collect data from 320 people. After excluding invalid data, the collected data of 312 persons were used for the final analysis. For data processing, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were performed using the SPSS 23.0 statistical program. As a result, this study drew the following conclusions. Specifically, As a result of examining the effect of emotional labor on burnout, it was found that, among the sub-factors of emotional labor, internal behavior had a significant negative effect on all four sub-factors of burnout, but surface behavior has no significant effect. In conclusion, in order to prevent burnout of soccer leaders, it is more important to show sincere emotions or internal actions through such efforts rather than superficial actions that create false emotions.
