The Effect of Electrical Impedance Matching on the Electromechanical Characteristics of Sandwiched Piezoelectric Ultrasonic Transducers

Abstract: For achieving the power maximum transmission, the electrical impedance matching (EIM) for piezoelectric ultrasonic transducers is highly required. In this paper, the effect of EIM networks on the electromechanical characteristics of sandwiched piezoelectric ultrasonic transducers is investigated in time and frequency domains, based on the PSpice model of single sandwiched piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer. The above-mentioned EIM networks include, series capacitance and parallel inductance (I type) and serie… Show more

“…These customized ultrasonic longitudinal-wave probes [21,22] with a central frequency of 30 kHz are installed using the dual-probe echo method. The signals are acquired and displayed using an oscilloscope (Tektronix MD04104) and the waves are recorded and the data are captured using a wave recorder (HIOKI MR8875-30), as shown in Figure 4b.…”

“…The final publication is available at Taylor & Francis Group via http:dx.doi.org/10.1080/10739149.2018.1518876 coefficient and a high dielectric constant. In addition to its good electromechanical properties, it allows good electrical matching to cables and electronics (which are typically at 50 to 80 Ω [11] ).…”

“…Equation (11) represents the acoustic signal that travels through the propagation medium, and is received by the target transducer. Since the transmitter and receiver transducers are identical, the form of the electric signal induced in the receiver transducer will be the solution of an underdamped oscillator (with the same physical parameters as the transmitter transducer), under an external force driven by the acoustic signal given by Equation (11). That is,…”

“…However, is not equal to due to the presence of the parallel capacitance [17]. Although, can be compensated by matching networks with additional reactive components [7,20,21], the fluctuations of load, inductance and capacitance will cause the matching network invalid resulting in deviation of tracking results. Moreover, the PLL methods can also cause other serious problems, such as anti-resonance frequency tracking and loss of lock [14].…”
