“…Knowing how to support an adolescent who is grieving is quite important, as epidemiological evidence points to a greater incidence of problems for children and adolescents who have experienced a significant loss. Long-term effects include the increased likelihood of medical illness (Bendikson & Fulton, 1976;Osterweis, Solomon, & Green, 1984;Raphael, 1983;Schmale & Iker, 1991;Seligman, Gleser, Rank, & Harris, 1974), psychiatric illness (Beck, Sethi, & Tuthill, 1963;Dennehy, 1966;Valente, Saunders, & Street, 1988;Watt & Nicholi, 1979), and suicidal risk as adults (Adams, Overholser, & Lehnert, 1994;Carter & Brooks, 1990;Cohen-Sandler, Berman, & King, 1982;Goldney, 1981;Koch, 1997). There are also numerous short-term, but extremely painful, results of bereavement (shock, numbness, sadness, anger, insomnia, loneliness, fright, survivor guilt, nightmares, suicide ideation, fears of own death, drug abuse, and school problems) that have been documented specifically around the loss of a peer (LaGrand, 1985;McNeil et al, 1991;Podell, 1989;Sklar & Hartley, 1990;Valente & Sellers, 1986).…”

“…Seligman en 1975 fue con su teoría de la indefensión aprendida el que inició el desarrollo de los modelo cognitivos de estrés, el cual postula que el individuo sometido a experiencias traumáticas incontrolables en sus primeros aprendizajes llega a percibir a nivel cognitivo la ineficacia de sus respuestas frente a los acontecimientos que posteriormente se le presenten y le recuerden anteriores experiencias (5).…”
