The effect of dynamic behaviours of the water droplet on DC/AC flashover performance on silicone rubber surface: Experiment, simulation and theoretical analysis

Abstract: It is usually seen that DC flashover voltage of the water droplet on the surface of silicone rubber (SIR) composite insulator is lower than AC flashover voltage. It is necessary to study the mechanisms and influencing factors of the surface properties. In this article, experiments are performed to study the moving processes of the water droplet and the influences of its dynamic behaviours on flashover voltage under DC/AC electric field. Besides, an electrohydrodynamic coupling method is employed to establish t… Show more

“…Droplet deformation and the induced surface discharges mainly depended on the droplet volume and the magnitude of applied voltage [20]. The moving processes of water droplet and its dynamic behaviour on flashover voltage under the DC/AC electric field were employed to reveal the impact on electric field distribution [21]. SR modification such as boron nitride in place of alumina tri-hydrate [22] and molecular simulation technique has also been utilised to improve the comprehension of the degradation mechanism [23,24].…”

“…Li et al discovered that the addition of both micro and nano aluminium hydroxide could greatly improve the resistance to corona ageing [4]. The further research studies exhibit that there are a large number of noncoordination atoms and defects on the surface of the nanofiller, which can trap the charge carriers in the polymer matrix and limit the charge movement [5][6][7].…”

“…Therefore, there is not enough available literature to accurately judge the influence of the contamination composition and distribution on the insulation performance of RTV coatings. Hence, it is difficult to guide the operation and maintenance of RTV insulators under complex contamination conditions [9]. It is important to note that hydrophobicity is completely lost even when the RTV coating has not yet reached its operating life (only 6 years of operation).…”
