The effect of crocin on testicular tissue and sperm parameters of mice offspring from mothers exposed to atrazine during pregnancy and lactation periods: An experimental study

Abstract: Background: Atrazine as a herbicide may affect the human’s health. Crocin may protect atrazine-induced damages. Objective:The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of atrazine on mice testicular tissue and sperm parameters and protective effects of Crocin on probably atrazine-induced damages.Materials and Methods:in this experimental study, 24 pregnant Balb/c mice were randomly divided to 4 groups: I: Atrazine (10 mg/kg), II: Atrazine-Crocin, III: Crocin (10mg/kg) and IV: Normal saline. Administrations … Show more

“…The present study showed that cotreatment with curcumin and quercetin synergistically protected the testes from damage induced by ATZ exposure in young adult rats. The testicular toxicity of ATZ in laboratory animals has been previously reported in many other studies (Abarikwu et al, 2010; Abarikwu, Oleribe, et al, 2020; Adesiyan et al, 2011; Agdam et al, 2017; Fani et al, 2018). Rats administered ATZ showed elevated testicular levels of both GSH concentration and glutathione S‐ transferase enzyme activity.…”

“…Then samples were incubated with 2,4-diaminobutyric acid (DAB) solution for 15 min, washed with PBS, and stained with hematoxylin. Finally, cells with brown nuclei were assessed as TUNEL-positive cells ( 29 , 30 ).…”

“…Previous researchers have shown that crocin improved testicular tissue damage. Fani et al reported that exposure of mice testicular tissue to atrazine for 23 and 75 days reduced the height of the epithelium, while crocin treatment increased that [22].…”
